Hatha I-II 9-10:15
Ashtanga I-II 10:30am-noon
(for Mahmoud, thru 9 Jan., '04)
Ashtanga begins with a healthy inner posture and compassionate attitude of the practitioner (yamas and niyamas). From there, we move through the traditional hatha forms in a flowing series. Options are given so that students express the essential gesture of the postures according to their own circumstances of flexibility, strength and energy, as these increase through steady practice.
With a background in the arts, my first, very fortunate introduction to the practice was with the now renowned Richard Freeman in Boulder, in 1990.
A lovely and elaborate set of circumstances brought me through his classroom door that early spring. The man tied in a graceful knot on the floor turned to see who was coming in, and I knew with that silent greeting that Mr. Freeman knew things about being that I had wanted to know as long as I could remember. I became a regular in the studio, and yoga began steadily and wonderfully transforming my life and art. (See sculpture @ www.kimmerjae.com )
I completed Richard’s teacher training course in the fall of 2000, and at the beginning of 2003 began to teach full time, and at the time of this writing have taught over 500 hours of classes between the Denver Ashtanga Yoga Center; in Boulder at the Department of Commerce, The Dairy Center for the Arts, and private locations.
